Biographie
Varun Akula is CenterCal Properties’ Senior Vice President, Development based out of the corporate office in El Segundo, CA. Varun’s previously spent 16 years at Hines, most recently as a Managing Director responsible for acquisitions, development, and asset management for office, residential, retail, industrial, and mixed-use projects. He has a proven track record leading the entitlement and development of high-profile mixed-use projects in Southern California.
Varun began his career in real estate while in college with internships at Staubach and NAI Realvest. He joined Hines in 2008 in Houston focusing on Investment Management for the Hines REIT product. In 2009, Varun relocated to Los Angeles to join the regional acquisitions and development team. During his time in Los Angeles, Varun has been involved in marquee projects including the development of West Edge, acquisition of Century Park, entitlement of South Coast Plaza Village, and other projects totaling approximately $8 billion of value. During his time at Hines, Varun was also responsible for Hines regional DEI taskforce as well as Hines local myCommunity initiative which strategically partnered with charities such as Chrysalis and Junior Achievement.
Varun has an A.B. in Economics from Harvard University. He resides in Culver City with his wife, two children, and bernedoodle. In his spare time, Varun enjoys travel, being a foodie, cooking, scuba, and paddle tennis.
