Biographie
After leaving the United Nations and Parks Canada in 2003 Michael Merten followed his passions in urban planning and public transportation development into commercial real estate. After completing hundreds of leasing transactions his focus has shifted to transforming neighbourhoods.
His first concrete project commenced in 2009 when he obtained mandates for more than 750,000 square feet of space for lease in the Mile-End Neighbourhood of Montreal. He got involved in all aspects of redevelopment from municipal coordination to neighbourhood promotion. He strongly believes that healthy buildings and healthy neighbourhoods are necessary to the urban tissue. His expertise in office leasing is fundamental in helping bring thriving business into neighbourhoods that are in the midst of revitalisation.
Some of his most recent projects are in Mile-Ex, a previously enclaved neighbourhood that has successfully transformed into a true Work-Live-Play-Learn neighborhood. Mike has participated in this transformation by liaising with several partners, local businesses, and municipal authorities. These experiences have now led him to consulting in other municipalities which are currently seeking dynamic revitalization solutions.
