Artwalk Center is a distinctive, multi-building campus located just off University Avenue in Rochester’s Neighborhood of the Arts, encompassing 840–860 University Ave and 2–4 Elton Street. Built incrementally over several decades as the campus evolved, the buildings reflect a range of architectural eras while sharing a common industrial character that has been thoughtfully adapted for modern use. At the heart of Artwalk Center is 4 Elton Street, originally constructed in 1911 as a purpose-built printing plant. Designed to support heavy presses, the building features extra-thick concrete floors, soaring ceiling heights, exposed brick walls, and substantial timber columns. A sloped, indoor truck ramp was incorporated to allow delivery vehicles to back directly into the building, enabling year-round loading and unloading. These industrial details remain visible today, lending the space its distinctive character more than a century later. Collectively, Artwalk Center is now home to a diverse mix of professional, creative, and service-oriented tenants, including Fiamma Restaurant, The William and Sheila Konar Foundation, Rochester Specialty Dental, Park & Berkeley Properties, Universal Kempo Club, Assemblymember Harry Bronson, Wendy At Work, Axe of Kindness Tattoo, and several other locally rooted businesses.
