Ironworks Campus carries a legacy that spans more than 150 years. Once a heavy manufacturing complex, it served as the headquarters of the Beloit Corporation, a company known worldwide for producing the finest paper-making machines. Generations of workers built equipment here that powered the global paper industry and anchored Beloits economy. Like many Midwest manufacturers, the company eventually faced industry decline and economic challenges. In 1999, Beloit Corporation closed its doors, leaving behind a massive industrial footprint and a proud history. In 2001, Ken and Diane Hendricks purchased the property with a vision to restore its vitality. They recognized the potential in the structures and began transforming the 750,000 square foot site into something new while preserving its historic character. By 2002, renovations were underway and the property was renamed Ironworks, honoring its roots in industry and craftsmanship. The once utilitarian offices, storage buildings, and manufacturing bays were converted into loft-style spaces that celebrate exposed brick walls, open truss ceilings, and industrial detail. This mix of heritage and modern function has created a distinctive setting that attracts a diverse group of businesses. Today, Ironworks Campus is home to more than 20 companies and over 1,200 employees. It has become a thriving destination that blends history, commerce, and creativity. As both a reminder of Beloits industrial past and a driver of its future growth, Ironworks stands as a true epicenter for the downtown community.
