The city forms the core of Silicon Beach, given the concentration of technology firms in the area. Companies are located here for several reasons, including the appealing beach lifestyle, the amenities in Downtown Santa Monica, the robust technology ecosystem in place, and the proximity to some of the most expensive executive housing in Los Angeles. Locating in Santa Monica is seen by many as a recruiting tool.
Santa Monica has been known as a tech and creative hotbed for decades, with firms small and large. Snap, Inc., Activision, Lionsgate Entertainment Corp, the RAND Corporation, and Hulu are among the largest companies in the area. Numerous startups have chosen to locate here.
